Dynamic branding for Fête de la Musique

The Fête de la Musique, also known in English as Music Day, Make Music Day, or World Music Day, is an annual music celebration that usually takes place in mid-June. On Music Day, citizens are urged to play music outside, in their neighborhoods or in public spaces and parks. Free concerts are also organized, where musicians play for fun; no fees are involved.
The idea for the first all-day musical celebration on the day of the summer solstice came from the Ministry of Culture of France; it was celebrated in Paris in 1982. Music Day later became celebrated in 120 countries around the world.
Concept
I wanted to capture the festival’s fun, summery French vibe while nodding to Jazz music’s visual style and Henri Matisse cutouts. This dynamic branding focuses on the typeface, from which the shapes used in the patterns are derived. Then, these typographic characters and hand-drawn shapes were mixed with Matisse's organic shapes and enhanced with a wide palette of warm colors to create a playful brand style.
